  2. DESIGNER'S CLUB WEB FILES USER'S GUIDE

  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to use your computer, 
  5. the programs you have purchased for it, and the process of creating Web pages.
  6.  
  7. Each Designer's Club issue will now include 32 images in GIF format for use on the 
  8. World Wide Web. Six of these files will be animated GIF images. These images are 
  9. found in a directory called "WEBFILES."
  10.  
  11. Each issue will include a mix of small images, perfect for buttons, and larger images 
  12. for spot art. Web-safe colors assure clean color on Mac or PC - no dithering, no 
  13. color shifts. File sizes and palettes are minimized for fast downloading.
  14.  
  15. Each image has up to three versions: one that can be used on any background, one 
  16. optimized for a white background, and when appropriate for the style of the art, one 
  17. optimized for a black background. Full transparency means no unsightly background 
  18. box.

  20. NAMING CONVENTIONS

  23. "A" following the number means it can be used on any background 
  24. (for example, 00001A.GIF)
  25.  
  26. "B" following the number means it can be used on a black background 
  27. (for example, 00026B.GIF)
  28.  
  29. "W" following the number means it can be used on a white background 
  30. (for example, 00026W.GIF)
  31.  
  32. "A" preceding the number means it is animated 
  33. (for example, A00028A.GIF would be an animated file that could be used on any 
  34. background; A00028B.GIF would be an animated file that could be used on a black 
  35. background.)

  38. SEE THE ANIMATED IMAGES IN ACTION

  40. To see how the images have been animated, open the HTML file for that month (for 
  41. example: DC0597.HTM). This file is located in the \WEBFILES\MMYYHTML\ directory 
  42. (where MMYY represents the CD month and year). In Microsoft Internet Explorer, go 
  43. to the FILE menu and select OPEN. In Netscape Navigator go to the FILE menu and 
  44. select OPEN FILE IN BROWSER. If you are using a browser other than Explorer or 
  45. Navigator, follow your normal procedures for opening HTML documents. You will then 
  46. be presented with an animated index of all six images.
